In Greek mythology, Poseidon is the god of the sea and also said to be the god of earthquakes.

the sea nymph, Amphitrite. He has five brothers ans sisters the five including: Hera, Hestia, Demeter, Hades and Zeus.
There are many different versions of his birth and escape from his father, cronus. Cronus ate his children after his lover gave birth to them because his was told by the gods Gaia and Uranus that he was destined to be overthrown by his sons as he had overthrown his own father. Cronus's wife, Rhea wanted to save Poseidon from the same fate as his other brothers and sisters so She hid her newborn son among a flock of sheep. She fooled Cronus into thinking that she had given birth to a colt and gave him the colt to swallow instead.
